Selecting a Private School - The First Steps Print E-mail
Written by George B. Woznak
For many families, spring and summer mark the beginning of their exploration of private school education. Before you begin Internet searches, making school visits, and plowing through stacks of admissions brochures, thoughtful parental reflection should be given to an array of factors that are integral to making informed choices about private school education.

As a staring point in evaluating and selecting the private school that will best meet the needs of your student and your family, you should diligently assess: 1) your goals and expectations for your student’s education, 2) your student’s interests, talents and academic inclinations, and 3) your family characteristics preferences, and traditions.

The Private School Student and Family Assessment, provides a useful framework for giving full and requisite attention to several essential matters that you will face in choosing the right school for your student. It is suggested that you record your responses to each of the questions included in the assessment so that they are available for subsequent reference. This will enable you to maintain a proper and consistent focus on your goals and your desired outcome for your student’s education and formation.

The Private School Student and Family Assessment, is one of a series of tools designed to help families make good choices about private school education that are contained in the Private School Admission Guide.
